An Early Start to an Unforgettable Morning

Our journey began with a burst of excitement, after embarking in the port of Cala Bona. The speedboat zoomed through the waters along the Llevant Peninsula Nature Park. The rugged, unspoiled coastline was a sight to behold, and the early start allowed us to take in the tranquil beauty of the surroundings. We picked up fellow adventurers from Cala Millor, and together, we cruised along the coast, soaking in the mesmerizing scenery.

Spectacular Sights Along the Coast

The journey was filled with delightful surprises, from hidden caves nestled within the cliff faces to glimpses of local wildlife. As we sped along, we admired stunning homes perched on the coastline, each with a view that could only be described as lottery-win worthy. It was a surreal experience to see such beauty from the unique vantage point of a speedboat.

Arrival at the Picturesque Port of Canyamel

Canyamel welcomed us with its charming port, just the right size for our boat. The crystal-clear waters and the surrounding pine forest created a serene and inviting atmosphere. We quickly realized that our adventure included a bit of a climb, but the trail leading to the Arta Caves was nothing short of stunning. Every step along the pine trail unfolded a new, picturesque view, making the climb well worth the effort.

Journey into the Heart of the Arta Caves

The Arta Caves were a spectacle, a testament to nature’s artistic prowess. Stepping into the first chamber, we were enveloped by millions of years of geological artistry. Stalactites hung like elegant chandeliers, while stalagmites rose from the ground like ancient sentinels. Our guide, fluent in Spanish, German, and English, explained that each centimeter of these natural sculptures took about 100 years to form.

As we moved through the cooled chambers, the guide revealed their ages, ranging from 2 million to 8 million years old. We marvelled at a 17-meter stalagmite, still stretching toward the ceiling, and formations resembling graceful jellyfish and even a woolly mammoth. It was astonishing to learn that the caves had been a tourist attraction for over a century, with traces of the first visitors still evident in the blackened walls of the first chamber. The 40-minute tour felt like a blink of an eye, a captivating journey through time.

A View to Remember

Exiting the caves, we were greeted by a breathtaking vista of the ocean and the Bay of Canyamel, a view that truly defied comparison. The downhill walk back to the port was a breeze, allowing us to soak in the picturesque surroundings. We snapped photos and videos, capturing memories of this enchanting place.

Our friendly crew soon whisked us back to Cala Bona, where we arrived feeling hungry and accomplished after our morning adventure. This tour was the highlight of our holiday, offering a perfect blend of excitement and natural wonder.
